We celebrated Adeline’s birthday this weekend with a froggy party. She insisted that everything be green (even the food) and so it was: pickles, melons, green chips, cake, cookies, juice. George suggested we all wear green as well… and so we did. Cole had promised her that it would be Froggyland and indeed it was!
She had been thinking about the party and issuing orders for so long that she
hardly knew what to expect. She kept looking around the party in wonder...
taking it all in… and noting, “So this is a birthday party.” Knowing Adeline,
she was also noting places of improvement for next year.
It was a relatively small affair with 2 friends from daycare, her cousin and buddy Louisa, and family. It was just the right size and she was pleased. Of all the kids I think the size of the party affects her the most. She always gets a little overwhelmed at her brothers’ big parties.
At one point, George heard Elvis playing in the living room and grabbed Cole to come dance with him. Louisa followed. Their intense and focused dancing earned an audience and before long all of the kids were “cutting the rug.” The shy ones bopped and swayed at first but soon gave way. Little Beatrice (15 months) was in their grooving with the big kids, and Adeline and buddy Audrey were hopping across the dance floor.
Compelled to join, I made my way to the dance floor, but George sent me off of the rug.
“Kids only, Mommy!”
I was forced to the other rug to dance alone!
Tom led a series of improvised frog races with potato sacks and caterpillar tubes. He was a bad fly that the frogs all chased and tried to eat. At one point all of the children were chasing my mother. They sent her to the grass and surrounded her. I suppose I’ll never know exactly what happened there.

All in all it was a fun day, and Adeline was happy.
Tomorrow is chemo. I have told George that I will be finished by his birthday and that promise helps me to stick to my schedule and not delay. Tomorrow afternoon, I will only have 3 to go. I am trying to brave. Wish me luck!

Wonderful photos. I am glad you all had a great time during Adeline's birthday party.

I'm so glad you posted these photos; what a wonderful time for all the little ones. Gosh; Adeline looks so familiar to me--O I wonder why?

Get out! I can't believe how lovely and mature Adeline is looking! Seems like yesterday when she was a strong, cherubic little baby. Now off to chase my little one, who I suspect is eating dirt out of the plant in the bedroom.
xoxo
Thinking of you always....

It was a great day but no one told me to wear green!! I wore plaid instead - the only pair of shorts I owned at the time - sunshine, warmth, smiling children, dancing, lots of green, and lots of love. I think it was a great party and a great day. So did Adeline.
