Today George made it to school without his shoes on. We were late for the first time this semester (a miracle). He was embarrassed to walk on the sidewalk in only his socks, but by the time Tom showed up with the shoes he had almost forgotten about them.
I left George to go find Cole's lunchbox which we'd lost somewhere between the car and George's classroom. Adeline told me that we'd left it at home. I'm glad she was wrong. We found it in the office and proceeded to Cole's classroom where a screaming Adeline had to be carried out so that Cole's class could begin.
We went across the street to the new and awesome Berkeley Bowl market. It has 2 produce departments - organic and regular - so you don't have to check every label. It has US grass fed beef. It has bulk spices. Bulk teas. And salt from Guerande. And it is also cheaper than everything else and is less than 50 steps from the school. Excellent.
Adeline and I did our regular BB Tuesday morning shopping. She sampled cheeses and ham. She pointed out all of the fruit that her brothers like and she won't eat. She held my shopping list and "read" it to me. She then threw it somewhere, and now I have no memory of what the menu is for this week. She also accidentally threw some yoghurt on the floor. Before I could tell someone, a magic man appeared with paper towels.
I got in line while thanking him. Adeline then told me she was going to pee. She still wears diapers when we are out and about, so I assumed Tom had put one on her when he dressed her. When I saw the puddle on the floor, I saw that he had not. I looked up at the mother in the line in front of me. She smiled sadly for me. I was even more sad when I learned that she had issues with everything she was purchasing. Adeline then told me she had to pee again, and before I could get it out of her seat she peed all over the cereal, milk, wine, and paper towels in the bottom of the cart.
I yanked some paper towel out of their plastic wrap and began to wipe it up. The magic man showed up again and helped me. I didn't want to tell him what it was, but I did suggest he might want to use some water to wash after drying it. I wiped off the wet items as they went down the conveyor belt.
If I had been on time OR not forgotten the shoes OR not lost Cole's lunch OR not taken Adeline into Cole's room OR not gotten in THAT shopping line, Adeline would not have peed all over my cereal.
I took off Adeline's tights in the car and took her, diaper free, to Grandma's.
I went home for a strong cup of tea and to figure out how to make a gluten-free, egg free, dairy free, and nut free cake for Cole's birthday party so that everyone gets cake!

What a day! And that was just the beginning...

Oh my dog! I laughed so hard I almost joined Adeline's club. Does the magic man make house-calls? I hope so.
